The Art Accelerator Program

Berea’s premier program for emerging artists and craftspeople!

The Art Accelerator Program was developed after city officials approached the Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED) looking for a way to retain freshly graduated artisans and utilize empty buildings in Berea’s Artisan Village, an historic district whose storefronts have been typically occupied by local artists and craftspeople. The Art Accelerator Program became a way to meet those goals, as well as a way to bring a continuous stream of new artists into the rich arts culture and community here in Berea.

Emerging new artists are selected annually to be program fellows, and through the program they receive business training and access to studio space. The fellows also have the opportunity to dive into Berea’s rich artisan community, networking and learning from seasoned artists in the area throughout their 16-month term.

Gallery 123 is a project of the Art Accelerator Program sponsored by Berea Tourism. By stocking and managing the programs’ gallery, the emerging artists are upholding the legacy of Berea’s Craft Economy, gaining valuable retail experience, and preparing for their careers as working artists.
