George Ella Lyon

George Ella Lyon has published fifty books for readers of all ages, including “Many-Storied House;” “Which Side Are You On? The Story of a Song,” Aesop Prize Winner; and, with J. Patrick Lewis, “Voices from the March on Washington,” winner of the Cybils Award.

Educated at Centre College, the University of Arkansas, and Indiana University, she has worked as a freelance writer and teacher for many years, speaking at schools and conferences and leading workshops throughout the country. Her poem “Where I’m From,” has been featured on Morning Edition and used as a writing model by teachers around the world.

As the Kentucky Poet Laureate in 2015-2016, Lyon inspired the Kentucky’s Where I’m From: A Poetry of Place Project. She is currently co-directing the national I Am From Project.
